At Elanco Dr. Elam was responsible for strategic planning activities for the over 40 countries in which Elanco operates. He was, and still is, a much sought after speaker on a variety of topics related to global animal health economics and agricultural industry outlook. He has given talks on a wide range of agricultural issues in most of the countries of the world with significant animal production.
After retirement from Elanco in 2003 Dr. Elam has continued his career by founding his his own company, FarmEcon LLC. As a consequence of recent developments Dr. Elam has chosen to focus on the consequences of U.S. biofuels policies on grain and oilseed markets.

A lifelong pilot, Dr. Elam is proudly serves Indiana CAP as a search and rescue and disaster relief mission pilot.
He is married, has two daughters, and resides in Carmel Indiana.
